Given the prominent role of principals in achieving the goals of organizations, particularly school principals, paying attention to their performance and evaluating their performance be of paramount importance. Therefore, this study was carried out to provide a conceptual model for evaluating the performance of school principals. The research method is qualitative and meta-synthesis. Data were collected by documentary method and reviewing all the scientific sources related to the subject of evaluating the performance of school principals (internal scientific sources 1380-1398 and external scientific sources 1990-2019). To that end, keywords for evaluating the performance of school principals, duties of school principals, school principals' performance standards, characteristics and competencies of school principals and professional qualifications of principals were examined in internal databases including scientific information database; SID, and external databases including Google Scholar, Scopus, Emerald, Elsevier, Proquest, Springer, Taylor & Francis. By thorough examination of 50 sources out of 1123 primary sources, 8 main components and 28 sub-components as criteria for evaluating the performance of school principals were identified and categorized. The findings revealed that attention to the identified dimensions can help senior executives to recognize the performance of school principals accurately and comprehensively and provide the basis for optimal decision making and proper selection.
